Affordable Christmas

Affordable Christmas is our holiday project that offers a dignified way to help under-resourced parents that we already work with to provide a comfortable and joyful Christmas for their children. Rather than giving away gifts, we work effectively to provide families with a unique experience. This is birthed out of relationships with those we love – relationships with people who were not looking for someone to feel sorry for them, but rather desired an opportunity to provide Christmas for their families.

Please purchase and donate new, unwrapped toys for children ages birth to 12. Unfortunately, we are not accepting donations of coats, gloves, hats, and scarves. The final date for giving will be Sunday December 1st so we will have ample time to sort, inventory and setup all of the items.

This is going to be a fun day of helping families choose their gifts, but it will take lots of help to make things go smoothly. So, before the holidays get busy and your schedule fills up, please put Affordable Christmas on your calendar for the morning of December 7th. You can sign up for the position that interests you here. Some of the roles you can fill include: CLICK ME to Volunteer We hope you’ll join us as we seek to be “in the city, for the city” by helping local families have an Affordable Christmas!
Consider collecting gifts at your office or other community locations. Here are some suggestions for how you can engage the community in donations:
  • Host a donation basket on your office floor/hospital floor/any place you work
  • Request a jeans day for anyone that donates financially or with toys to the event
  • Talk to your gym, favorite coffee shop, or local business owners who want to host a basket for you
  • Use your company’s matching gift program to donate to Affordable Christmas (just make sure it is designated for that specific event)
  • Have a different idea? Great- go for it!

QUESTIONS?

Q:  Can families from non-partner organizations participate in shopping at Affordable Christmas?
A:  No, this is a closed event and only for families who are a part of Soma or our partner churches and organizations.

Q:  How does Soma use the money from the Affordable Christmas gift sales?
A:  It goes directly back into the budget for next year to pull off the event.

Q:  Can companies give monetary donations?
A:   Yes. Please make checks payable to “Soma Community Church” with ‘Affordable Christmas’ in the memo.

Q:  How do individuals or companies receive a tax-deduction form?
A:  Please contact us to let us know you are in need of a form and we will gladly help you with it.
