Why doesn’t SCM meet weekly?
We actually do have a weekly, large-group gathering—the weekend gathering on Sundays! Also, SCM is geared more toward organic and informal relationships that develop as you do life with people on campus.
The physical presence of other Christians is a source of incomparable joy and strength to the believer. – Dietrich Bonheoffer
The author of Hebrews encourages us not just to meet for services and go our separate ways, but to consider seriously how to energize each to love and good works (Hebrews 10:24-25). This can happen only in the context of deep relationships, which require time and real and honest conversation. Connection Groups are a safe place to ask questions and to build relationships with other students who are doing the same. Connection Group is a small environment for friendship, accountability and the study of God’s word.
If you are not involved in a campus ministry, fill out this brief interest form, and we will follow up with you to get you plugged into a Connection group on campus.
All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations …. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. – Jesus
Jesus modeled humble service to his disciples and followers, and we learn in John 13 that he even washed his disciples’ feet. We want our college students to follow Jesus’ example and continually grow as humble servants to our church and the community. There are many opportunities to serve our church and community, from helping in Summit Kids to mentoring at-risk students in local schools.
Our church is has a partnership with Moreau Heights Elementary here in Jefferson City. Whiz Kids tutors are making a difference in the lives of children who are struggling academically. Whiz Kids is a faith-based, one-on-one tutoring program that meets weekly for an hour of tutoring and 30 minutes of “Club Time” (Bible lesson) with the vision to tutor and mentor students in the spirit of Christ.
